harrypotterimage.jpgIn an interview and online chat, Rowling gave additional information on the futures of the main characters that she chose not to include in the epilogue of the book.

  • Harry becomes an Auror for the Ministry of Magic, and is later appointed head of the department. Harry owns Sirius’s motorcycle, which Arthur Weasley repaired for him. Because Voldemort’s soul fragment inside him was destroyed, Harry can no longer speak Parseltongue.
  • Ron works for a time with George at his store, Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, and eventually becomes an Auror.
  • Hermione initially works for the Ministry of Magic in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, greatly improving life for house-elves and their ilk. She later moves to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and assists in eradicating oppressive, pro-pureblood laws. She also finds her parents in Australia and removes the memory modification charm she put on them.
  • Luna Lovegood searches the world for odd and unique creatures. She eventually marries Rolf, the grandson of the famed naturalist, Newt Scamander.
  • Ginny Weasley plays for the Holyhead Harpies Quidditch team for a time, then leaves her athletic career behind for marriage and family with Harry. She eventually becomes the lead Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet.
  • George Weasley runs his successful joke shop, helped by Ron. He names his first child Fred, after his late twin brother.
  • Slytherin House has become more diluted and is no longer the pureblood bastion it once was. Nevertheless, its dark reputation lingers.
  • Voldemort’s jinx on the Defence Against the Dark Arts (DADA) position is broken with his death, and there is a permanent DADA teacher.
  • Firenze is welcomed back into his herd, who acknowledge that his pro-human leanings were not shameful, but honourable.
  • Kingsley Shacklebolt becomes the Minister for Magic, with Percy Weasley working under him as a high official.
  • As part of the changes introduced by Kingsley Shacklebolt, Azkaban no longer uses Dementors. As a result, the world is now a “much sunnier place”.
  • Dolores Umbridge is arrested, interrogated, and imprisoned for crimes against Muggle-borns.
  • The Quibbler has returned to its usual condition of “advanced lunacy”, and is appreciated for its unintentional humour.
  • A portrait of Snape was not in the headmaster’s office as he abandoned his post before dying. Harry intends to fight the absence of Snape’s portrait, and reveals to all Snape’s true allegiance.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

harrypotterimage.jpgSo last night I stayed up until 1 am finishing up the last installment of the Harry Potter series. I know took me long enough right? Well to be honest I really had a hard time finding time to read it other than 11:00 at night, and after an hour of reading I would always fall asleep in the book. Anyway, enough of my lame excuses right? The book was everything I’d hoped it would be really, although a tad bloodier than I anticipated and a whole lot more deaths that I could’ve done without. As I sat there reading the last words of the book I started to slow down, like I wanted to savor the last few words of the book. So I could hold on to the story just a little bit longer. I will say that the ending is satisfying enough so that I am not completely depressed, however I am really sad that the books are over. That there will be no more Harry Potter. I won’t go into any detail in case there are some of you out there that are slower readers than I am, but those of you that have finished I would love to have a discussion on what you thought about the book. That discussion can take place in the comments, so those of you that want to stay unspoiled should stay away from reading the comments.

Missing Pages

deathly-hallows.pngSo my wife sent me the most unfortunate piece of news for a few Potter fans. Apparently there were a bunch of books printed and distributed with missing pages. You can read more about it here. I must say that would really suck. Imagine you are neck deep in the book and you find out that 30 pages are missing from the book. I’m only half way through the book and now I am more nervous than ever since I’m not about to flip through my book and check the page numbers. Have any of you had this problem with the book?

A Magical Night

So Friday (technically Saturday) night was the release of the final Harry Potter Book. I was a little more than excited by this. It was really a historical moment. However I feel that Borders really let me down. Two years ago when “The Half-blood Prince” came out they made a huge deal. There were games and live animals and tons and tons of kids dressed up. This year there were still people dressed up but not as many and they were older kids. It was really just a bunch of dorks standing around, myself included in my homemade Gryffindor Fo Life shirt. I understand the angle though. It’s the last book. Bookstores don’t need to offer a big hoopla because people are going to buy the book no matter what and since it is the last book they don’t have to worry about those who would go somewhere else to get their book next time because there won’t be a next time.  Regardless, I had a great time because I was with my closest friends and I drank two of the big sized Red Bulls before I got there. I am happy to report I made it till 4am and stopped reading only because I had to get up at 9 am the next morning. I am now about half way through the book and I love it! The best book so far. I hope to have it done within the next few days. I hope those of you who participated in the festivities on Friday had fun. I know I did. Happy reading.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

deathly-hallows.pngSo with 14 hours and 46 minutes to go until the world knows what happens to Harry Potter, I couldn’t be more excited. You know it is only natural when facing the end to think about the beginning. I remember when I first read the Harry Potter books. It was about 3 or 4 years ago. I had seen the first two movies and really enjoyed them. A few of my friends were really really into the books, so I thought I would give them a shot. I was lent the first book and couldn’t put it down. Soon I was asking for the third book. By the time I got to the fourth book (my favorite) I was a fanatic. The world of Harry Potter was a way of life for me. My parents bought me books 1-5 for Christmas that year so I was locked and loaded until the next book came out. I would read everyday in my Art History class and while I was at work. Soon I was caught up for the 6th book which was due out soon. However, the same day I got book 6 I got an eye infection and got about ten pages in before my eyes burst into flames! I even went out and bought clear eyes at like 1am but it did me no good. As a Potter fan late in the game there is one thing I didn’t not have to endure until now and that is waiting for the next book to come out. It has been a long wait but the time is near. Tonight I will be at a Borders Express in Briarwood mall at 12:01 to get my book with all the other nerds. It should be a good time. So are there any other fanatics out there in the blogging community beside me and this guy?
