I am happy to report that I made it. I ran the 5K on Sunday and I didn’t die quite or even walk although any of those would’ve felt better than the way I was feeling at the end of the run. I did it though in 33 minutes even. I know I wasn’t “faster than a speeding bullet” or anything but I didn’t finish last. The real rub about the whole run though was the last turn of every lap was a huge hill. Every time I got to that hill I wanted to give up. I probably would have if hadn’t been for my wife. Sometimes running backwards to look me in the eye and encourage me, she never let me give up.

For the longest time I have been worried about my self discipline. For some reason after I got out of college my discipline went out the window. Running last week was the first time I set a goal and reached it without giving up. That feeling was intoxicating. It suddenly made the task seem less difficult. It gave me the desire to keep going. I would have to say Friday was my break though. Up until Friday I was unable to complete the 3 miles without stopping to walk a ways. I kept trying every day but I couldn’t do it. It turned out to be more of a diet thing than a psychical inability. Apparently not eating after noon and three cups of coffee do not make you running ready. So after eating a good mid day snack and some Gatorade I was able to not only complete the three miles but I ran an extra victory lap just because I felt so good I completed my goal!

So now it is official. I am a runner. I am going to continue running after work and trying to stay in shape. Who knows I may be running the Team in Training with Becca next year. By the way thanks to all of you who supported her over the last few months. She is now running 9 miles and has exceeded her goal of $1,500 and has raised $1,967! But don’t let that keep you from giving. We are still hoping to raise as much money as possible for this great cause.

Sore but committed

Well it was bound to happen. My wife got me to commit to a little marathon for Mott Children’s hospital. It’s a three mile run in Ann Arbor. It has a nice little St. Patrick’s day theme and everything. You know after seeing my wife run 9 miles the other day for her Team in Training I figured it’s only 3 miles I can do this. I played hockey. I can get in shape to run. Well Yesterday was my first day of running. It was a sad performance. I could only run 2 miles after it was all said and done. This morning I woke up with every muscle in my body on fire. I have come to the conclusion that someone had put Kryptonite in my Gatorade! I haven’t given up. I have until Sunday to get into shape. I can do this. However it does make me appreciate all my wife puts herself through. She has way more discipline and dedication than anyone I have ever met. I hope I can learn a thing or two from her this week.

Well That Figures.

Top 5 Songs Of The Week.

Posted in Becca, Church, David Crowder, Life, Lifehouse, Me, Music, Top 5 on February 16, 2007 by superman1224

Well it’s Friday again and that means it’s time for the top 5 songs of the week. Boy I thought this day would never come.

5. “Breathe (2 am)” Anna Nalick. I know this song is very “My boyfriend just dumped me and now I am sitting in my bed with a whole gallon of ice cream” but come on it’s a good song. I guess this comes from the whole chick flick weakness.

4. “Come Back Down” By Lifehouse. I know I know I should just post their whole Cd. It’s still awesome though. Every week I find a new song I love by them. Great band.

3. “This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race” By Fall Out Boy. This is an awesome Cd. The Wife got it for me for Valentine’s Day and I have listened to it all the way through like 5 times.

2. “Hum Hallelujah” By Fall Out Boy. Awesome song…if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be number 2.

1. “Oh The Glory Of It All” By THE David Crowder. I know Russ has been talking about this song for a while but I finally got a copy of it. It is awesome. I can’t wait for their new album to come out. I also can’t wait till June when they come in concert at Northridge Church.

As always leave your comments and your top 5 for the week. Also as a side note I am going to be getting 5 new Cd’s next week so I will have plenty of music up for review.

Becca’s Team In Training Update.

Posted in Becca, Cold, Football, Life, Love, Me, Running, Team In Training, Uncategorized on February 7, 2007 by superman1224

Just wanted to give you all an update on Becca’s Team In Training progress. Remember last Saturday? You know the day where it was like 2° outside and -25° with the wind chill. My wife ran 7 miles in that. I know what you’re thinking she is crazy. Well that’s what I thought too but I realized that when someone is truly dedicated to something, they don’t let obstacles stand in their way. My wife is as dedicated as they come.

Last Sunday we had a SuperBowl party to help raise a few bucks and it turned out great. Becca was able to raise $80 bucks and all ate well thanks to my Mother-in-law who makes the greatest food tasted by man. Becca and I would like to thank everyone who showed up to the party and for their generosity. Becca has been able to raise $686 so far. It’s a great start on her way to her goal of $1,500.

As well as running in memory of Becca’s Uncle Ralph, Team in Training also has what they call an honored hero. Neil Penney is just six years old and has been diagnosed with Pre B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Neill was in remission for over two years, but recently had a central nervous relapse. Neill loves Star Wars and playing with legos.

More fund raising events are in the works for the months a head including a No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament. I’ll have more details on these events soon. Until then make sure you visit Becca’s donation site here. Thanks again for all your support. We now return you to the blogging already in progress.
