Tonight On Smallville…Veritas

Ok so this is the one to watch. I have heard so many GOOD things about this one. So I am excited to watch. Here is the CW official description:

KARA TEACHES CLARK HOW TO FLY — Kara (Laura Vandervoort) decides to teach Clark (Tom Welling) how to fly in order to strengthen his chances against Brainiac (guest star James Marsters). However, Brainiac seems to have the upper hand against the super cousins,
and some of Clark’s loved ones are caught in the crossfire. Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Aaron Ashmore and John Glover also star. James Marshall directed the episode written by Brain Peterson & Kelly Souders

This is going to be it for a while. This was originally supposed to be the season finale due to the writers strike, but filming has resumed on the show, but won’t air until April 17th. So although changed from the original, this should still be a great episode!

Episode discussed in the comments.

  1. Tyler Barnes Says:

It was a good episode. Obviously since Kritin Kreuk is leaving the show, coming back for only a few episodes in Season 8, they had to find a way to put Lana out of the picture by Brianiac paralizing her. It goest to show that to be a loved one of the future Superman is a hazzard to one’s health. That is why Clark has good reason to keep his secret from her for so long. He was afiaid that this would happen. It has always been a reason why Superman never got in to a serious romantic relationship in the comics in the past and in the Superman movies when he had to give up his relationship with Lois Lane. I was discouraged to see the writers taking Kara out of the story again by having her fly off with Brianiac. The producers are still insisting that Clark not fly and Brianiac showed his contempt for his limitations when he flew off with Kara. Now has Kara broken the time barrier with Brianiac and gone back to Krypton before its explosion? I surely hope that if she has, she will return as she has been a real addition to the series. She is much more of a “Super” girl than Clak is even a “Super” boy, let alone Superman. What a sad aack for a Superman Clark is. He is so easily defeated by his enemies and suffers so much at their hands. The writers are not really telling the story of Superman in his youth, but soem pale imitation of him. This is “Smallviile” ‘s greatest diserice to the Superman character and mythody. How sad.

  2. Wow, what an episode! This one is going to take a bit to marinate.

A few thing s to note though. It seems Clark is getting squeezed out of his own show a bit. In the old days Clark was the focus. He was in almost every scene and was the driving force to the seasons arc. Now it seems that Clark as been somewhat reduced to a story prop in some of these later episodes. The story telling is on mark but it just seems like Clark is absent from most of it. He has these minor rolls that spill over onto the rest of the overall plot. Don’t get me wrong I love Smallville, but I just want a little more Clark in my story.

Veritas was wicked awesome on so many levels, but a little disappointing on some. I mean come on, that was hardly a flying lesson. It seems they built that up a bit too much. If they wouldn’t have even mentioned it I think it would have been a cool element in the story.

So here’s the good. I love the harshness of Brainiac. The guy totally took the gloves off in this episode. What he did to Lana was shocking and sad. That poor girl has been jacked up over the years. You have to believe that there will be hell to pay for what happen to her. It brings up a lot of questions as to the fate of the character for next season. That last scene is the last we will see of Lana this season I believe. She is in china shooting Street Fighter and won’t be back but for a select few episodes next season. I am hoping she gets fixed up before her time on Smallville is over. I would hate for her character to end up like that.

Lex is a Bad Bad man! Next week he finishes his journey to the dark side. It would be a shame for Lex to reach his potential this season only to part ways with the show during contract negotiations.

The next package of episodes are going to be huge. I am really looking forward to where this is heading. I just hope there is a little Smallville left when it is all said and done.

  3. Good episode, just have a few questions about the Veritas, Ok we all now know who was all in this secret Veritas group, (Luther, Queen, Swan,Tieg)
and we know all thier children (Lex, Oliver, Swan’s Daughter (sorry her name slips me at this time)) except one, Tieg and his son, who are they and do they play a part in the superman story besides what we have seen with them in Lex’s Visions, and Veritas. Friend of Foe for the man of steel?
ok are they both already dead? My guess is that the son is still alive. anyone know anything more?

  4. We never met Mr. Tieg but we met his wife and his son Jason. Jason was Lana’s boyfriend in the 4th season. The one she met in Paris during her summer abroad. They play no part in the original Superman mythos, so you’re not missing anything. They are definitely a foe of the man of steel but both are no longer a threat to him. Watch Season 4 of Smallville and it will make more sense.
